Rust-Converto™ Technical Data

DESCRIPTION A water-based, film-forming product that chemically transforms rust into an inert, non-corrosive material.
USES Use on rusted steel surfaces only where minimum surface preparation (scraping and wire brushing) is practical. For mild industrial environments. Not for immersion service.
APPEARANCE & ODOR Colored, opaque pigmented liquid with slight odor.
RECOMMENDED TOPCOATS Rustonic, Rustonic-Mastic, Rustcoat, Rustcoat-Mastic, Rustguard, Rustguard-Mastic, Industrial Enamel - High Gloss, Semi-gloss, Flat and Metallic Finishes.
COMPATIBLE TOPCOATS Rust-Converto can be top-coated with any of Unity International's rust-preventive products from the Classic or Eco lines, and many other solvent-based finishes. However, for optimal performance with high performance coatings, the surface preparation and primer recommendation for those coatings should be followed. For water-based finish coatings, a solvent-based primer should be used first.

SPECIAL FIRE-FIGHTING PROCEDURES Polymer film can burn. Avoid breathing fumes of burning coating because carbon dioxide/monoxide may be released. Use full protective equipment including self-contained breathing apparatus. Cool closed containers with water.
UNUSUAL FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARDS Closed containers may explode when exposed to extreme heat or fire. Decomposition of burning material may cause toxic gases to form which may include carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide. Material may splatter if temperature exceeds 212°F.

Cure
Cure times will vary with ambient temperatures and percentage of catalyst used.
UniGuard Coat may be over coated as soon as it has hardened
sufficiently to accept the weight of the next coat without sagging (1-3 hrs).
Full cure will take 72 hours @ 20-25°C, but immersion in seawater can be allowed after 24 hours.
Spark Testing
Test at 5000 volts for each 40 mil thickness.
Colors
Standard colors are Black, Off White & Light Grey. Custom colors are available to order.
